Using Self Storage To Its Fullest
Potential
When you are going to pay somebody to put
things in a self storage place, you want to
make sure that you get the most for your
money, that it is easy to use, and that your
things don't get ruined or worse--stolen.
So, there are some basic precautions you
need to take.
1. First, think about what sort of self
storage you are going to need. Is it a short
term arrangement? Make sure you choose a
self storage facility that doesn't hit you
with phantom costs for taking your stuff
back early. Likewise, if it is going to be
long term, see if there's a storage place
that will give you a long term deal.
2. Never opt for a bigger space than you
need--including airspace. Take the smallest
unit you can and pack it from floor to
ceiling--especially if you know you won't
need to get anything out of the self storage
unit until you you get it all. Anything else
is needlessly expensive.
3. If, on the other hand, you will need to
be getting into your stuff pretty often,
make sure not to pack your unit in such a
way that is not manageable. And it might
then be worth it to choose a self storage
business that is closer to where you'll be,
even if it is slightly more expensive.
4. Ask about possible insurance for
break-ins. Also, check with the better
business bureau to see if there are any
complaints or the like against the self
storage company that you are considering
renting from. If there are, choose another.
5. When you are putting your stuff in your
unit, use common sense: put the most
valuable items in the rear, and don't skimp
on the lock you put on the door either.
6. Also remember that it is absolutely
forbidden to put anything inflammable or
combustible in your self storage unit. While
you might think that this is unnecessarily
strict, if all of your stuff went up in
smoke, you wouldn't. No gas or paint
thinner, not even inside gas-tanks or
paint-cans.
By taking the above precautions, you will
keep your stuff safer. That way you can take
it out of storage and enjoy it on a daily
basis again. |
